Pinterest In the Making

Perhaps you’ve heard of a (not so) little social media platform called Pinterest? It’s no secret that Pinterest is the place for content creators. From food to crafting to fashion and more, it is the place where creators can connect with readers and inspire everyone to make something amazing. At Mediavine, we recognize the enormous value that a platform of this type and magnitude can have to our publishers, which is why we have worked hard to establish a relationship with the team behind Pinterest, introducing them to our content creators and advocating on your behalf with them. They’ve been featured multiple times on the Mediavine blog, and whether we’re introducing their new business profile or our hack for hidden pins, any content involving Pinterest is always popular. We even did a Facebook Live Q&A with two of their employees recently, and plan to do more […]

At Mediavine, we’ve said countless times that ads … well, they can sort of suck. This sounds backwards coming from a full-service advertising management company, but helping content creators create sustainable businesses requires a broad, holistic, and comprehensive long-game strategy that promotes quality at every turn. Mediavine publishers trust us to place high quality advertisements that are relevant to both the content and users, don’t slow down their sites, and aren’t detrimental to user experience. As a company founded for publishers, by publishers, we understand this responsibility and have made ad quality a top priority from day one through our relationships with our advertisers, custom built technology and feedback from publishers and users. How serious are we about ad quality? In May 2018, Mediavine joined an elite group of like-minded companies worldwide in becoming a member of the Coalition for Better Ads. This aligns Mediavine […]

Viewability is one of the biggest digital ad trends of the last several years. So what is ad viewability as it pertains to digital ads and how do you improve it? What is viewability? The authorities on digital ads, known as the Interactive Advertising Bureau or IAB, set the standard for viewability based on the Media Rating Council (MRC) measurement guidelines.

mediavine versus google adsense ads

What’s the difference between Mediavine and Google AdSense? A whole lot. These two ad solutions are like night and day, although many times, you’ll see very similar looking ads coming from both. How does that happen? Let’s back up a bit. If you’re reading this, you’re obviously familiar with Google AdSense, perhaps the longest-running ad solution for publishers still in existence today. The premise of AdSense is simple: You copy and paste a short line of code where you want the ad to appear. Google serves the ads there, working as the intermediary so you don’t have to work with advertisers, or think about the process hardly at all. Google finds relevant ads based on your content, and sends you payment for the earnings once you reach a certain threshold. For many small publishers, AdSense makes sense as a simple, secure, introductory option to the […]

What is Fill Rate?

In digital advertising, fill rate is defined as the number of ads served divided by the total number of ads requested. Written as a formula, it looks like this: Fill Rate = Ads Served / Ads Requested Why wouldn’t every ad request be served, making that figure 100% and eliminating the need to discuss it? There are several reasons, but the short version is a lack of ads for a particular user. Watch our Go For Teal video, What is Fill Rate?    Why would that be the case? In the world of header bidding, every request for an ad on a site is sold in a real time auction, and not every auction is going to have a valuable user. Let’s take a quick look at how header bidding works:  Why is that the case? Because in programmatic advertising, advertisers typically look at a combination […]

Let’s start with the good news. Mediavine publishers are having an amazing 2018 so far, and June is certainly no exception. The year-to-year difference is striking. In June of 2017, we saw an average session RPM of $14.88 for all Mediavine publishers. By the end of this June, we expect that company-wide RPM to approach $20, an increase of 25-30 percent from only a year ago. What’s even more incredible is that this would also eclipse what we saw last December, the peak earning month of the advertising cycle! What’s leading to this increase in RPM? The long and short of it? Our growing publisher family and their amazing content. Even before 2018 began, we were calling this the year of video, with the goal of positioning Mediavine to be a leader in this increasingly lucrative space. Advertisers have taken notice. To put Mediavine’s video […]

We’re big fans of motivation around these parts. It takes a motivated individual to start their own business and work from home. It also takes commitment to see that business venture through the lean days and build it to success. Mediavine publishers have these 2 qualities in spades, and our interviewee today is certainly no exception.  Jeff Proctor and his business partner own and operate two financial websites, DollarSprout.com and Breaking The One Percent, both of which are with Mediavine for full-service ad management.  We asked Jeff to sit down with us and talk about his relatively short road to success as well as his goals for the future.  Welcome to the blog, Jeff! Tell us a little bit about yourself, your family, and your everyday life. First off, thanks for having me on the blog today! My name is Jeff Proctor and I run […]
