When we last left you, MVCon18 day 1 was in the books, leaving our heads, hearts and bellies full of learning, love and tasty food and drink. What went where? You decide! On Friday morning, we headed back to the Google campus for another day of conference excitement. Google has been working to have sites focus on mobile functions, so we were lucky to have Cheney Tsai, Google Mobile Solutions Consultant, kick off our day with a session on mobile user experience. The bottom line? Make sure you think about making your sites fast and efficient in addition to beautiful! Next up was Joanne Ozug of Fifteen Spatulas, who delivered a killer presentation on getting yourself ready to be in front of the camera. Most of us are used to being behind it, but as blogs grow, so does the demand for an authority on […]

It’s been three weeks since our second annual Mediavine Publishers Conference, and we’re still California dreamin’. The conference is our favorite event of the year (not that we’re biased or anything) and we’re so grateful we were able to spend a few days with so many amazing publishers! While the weather didn’t present quite as many challenges as our Charleston conference, we were determined not to let the chilly temperatures and rain get us down. Our conference kicked off with a reception at San Jose’s new San Pedro Square Market. This “market” is really a food hall, filled with vendors of all cuisines. Attendees enjoyed street tacos from Loteria Taco Bar and fantastic ice creams from the Treatbot truck, as well as our signature cocktail, the Teal Traffic Driver! And many shenanigans were captured in the photo booth, sponsored by GumGum. Sessions started Thursday morning […]

2017 Session Refresh on Page Speed Optimization Eric Hochberger, Mediavine Co-Founder and CEO, still wants you to think like a robot.   In his knowledge-packed session at our 2017 conference in Charleston, he broke down the nuts and bolts of page speed in a language all us non-developers can understand: PLAIN ENGLISH. There aren’t many people involved in the digital space who will tell you that page speed doesn’t matter. Anyone who’s ever yelled “just LOAD!” in frustration at a glowing screen or pressed the back button 50 times while trying to read the news on their phone KNOWS that site speed is an important thing. But many of us non-techies don’t know exactly WHY it matters so much to the people we want to work with (like Google and big brands) or HOW to fix the issues that are making our site slow. At our […]

Any home inspector worth their salt knows that a cracked foundation means a full-stop in the home buying process. Well, for digital content creators, your host is your site’s foundation. Is it well-constructed and built soundly enough to withstand a battering from the digital elements? How can you tell? What should your host be doing for you? What questions should you be asking a potential host? For all the answers to our hosting questions, we went to Peter Green. Peter is the Owner and CTO of Agathon, a company that specializes in building and hosting web applications. Let’s start at the very beginning (a very good place to start?): What is a host? Starting at the beginning, when you sing you begin with “do – re – mi”… sorry, slipped into ‘The Sound of Music’ there for a second! What I meant to say was that a […]

“You need a lawyer.” Whether it’s your one call after a wild night or a frantic cry for help after your most popular post has been copied and your images stolen, the need for legal representation typically elicits the same feelings as the need for a root canal. But what if it didn’t? What if you knew you had everything for your digital business put in place and you were covered before anything went wrong? Enter Jamie Lieberman, Esq. She’s a tattooed, purple-haired genius lawyer, with a firm and several businesses that specialize in legal concerns for digital content creators. Jamie will be breaking through the legal stigma in her session at the Mediavine Conference, “Lawyering Up: Blogger Legal Tips”, and she was kind enough to give us an interview preview. Hi Jamie! Thank you for taking the time to gab with us and do […]

Trust me, based on the details she’s […]

Kirsten Oliphant recently spoke at the Mediavine Publisher Conference with Mary Younkin on how to make the most out of your email lists and newsletter audience. Kirsten is sharing more tips with you here, along with our video of the full conference presentation. -Amber  Keeping up with every new social platform and tool can be exhausting. (Or exhilarating, if you love social media.) Love or hate them, all the shiny new objects make email seem a bit outdated. Plus, our inboxes are overflowing with promotional emails.
