You may have noticed that Mediavine stopped referring to itself as the Mediavine Publisher Network earlier this year, a subtle but significant change that better reflects our core mission. We made this decision by asking ourselves, “What is Mediavine?” The answer to that question began, interestingly, by deciding what we’re not: an ad network. Ad networks are organizations, often faceless, that place ads on your site, pay you and that’s it. That’s also the extent of their relationship with the publisher. That is not Mediavine. Our goal is building sustainable businesses for content creators, which starts with full-service ad representation to help maximize the value of your site in every respect. That means not just representing your ad inventory to earn the most revenue, but offering the support, technology and resources to grow your entire business. Strictly from an ad management standpoint, Mediavine manages your […]

We started in Charleston in 2017. We followed that up with a trip to the Google headquarters in California in 2018. And next year, we’re upping our game again. That’s right, you read it in the post title, you saw it on the Live reveal, there will be TWO MEDIAVINE CONFERENCES IN 2019! The first one will be held in the Windy City, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. Save the date for June 12-14, 2019. We don’t need to convince you Chicago is where we need to be, as this Second City was your first choice in several conference location surveys that we did. Summer in Chicago is magic. Beaches, baseball, festivals, concerts and rooftop bars around every corner. Plus world class art, museums, comedy, food, 2 international airports and easy, affordable transit in the city on the El. And for our second 2019 conference, we’re heading where […]

When we last left you, MVCon18 day 1 was in the books, leaving our heads, hearts and bellies full of learning, love and tasty food and drink. What went where? You decide! On Friday morning, we headed back to the Google campus for another day of conference excitement. Google has been working to have sites focus on mobile functions, so we were lucky to have Cheney Tsai, Google Mobile Solutions Consultant, kick off our day with a session on mobile user experience. The bottom line? Make sure you think about making your sites fast and efficient in addition to beautiful! Next up was Joanne Ozug of Fifteen Spatulas, who delivered a killer presentation on getting yourself ready to be in front of the camera. Most of us are used to being behind it, but as blogs grow, so does the demand for an authority on […]

It’s been three weeks since our second annual Mediavine Publishers Conference, and we’re still California dreamin’. The conference is our favorite event of the year (not that we’re biased or anything) and we’re so grateful we were able to spend a few days with so many amazing publishers! While the weather didn’t present quite as many challenges as our Charleston conference, we were determined not to let the chilly temperatures and rain get us down. Our conference kicked off with a reception at San Jose’s new San Pedro Square Market. This “market” is really a food hall, filled with vendors of all cuisines. Attendees enjoyed street tacos from Loteria Taco Bar and fantastic ice creams from the Treatbot truck, as well as our signature cocktail, the Teal Traffic Driver! And many shenanigans were captured in the photo booth, sponsored by GumGum. Sessions started Thursday morning […]

2017 Session Refresh on Page Speed Optimization Eric Hochberger, Mediavine Co-Founder and CEO, still wants you to think like a robot.   In his knowledge-packed session at our 2017 conference in Charleston, he broke down the nuts and bolts of page speed in a language all us non-developers can understand: PLAIN ENGLISH. There aren’t many people involved in the digital space who will tell you that page speed doesn’t matter. Anyone who’s ever yelled “just LOAD!” in frustration at a glowing screen or pressed the back button 50 times while trying to read the news on their phone KNOWS that site speed is an important thing. But many of us non-techies don’t know exactly WHY it matters so much to the people we want to work with (like Google and big brands) or HOW to fix the issues that are making our site slow. At our […]

Any home inspector worth their salt knows that a cracked foundation means a full-stop in the home buying process. Well, for digital content creators, your host is your site’s foundation. Is it well-constructed and built soundly enough to withstand a battering from the digital elements? How can you tell? What should your host be doing for you? What questions should you be asking a potential host? For all the answers to our hosting questions, we went to Peter Green. Peter is the Owner and CTO of Agathon, a company that specializes in building and hosting web applications. Let’s start at the very beginning (a very good place to start?): What is a host? Starting at the beginning, when you sing you begin with “do – re – mi”… sorry, slipped into ‘The Sound of Music’ there for a second! What I meant to say was that a […]

“You need a lawyer.” Whether it’s your one call after a wild night or a frantic cry for help after your most popular post has been copied and your images stolen, the need for legal representation typically elicits the same feelings as the need for a root canal. But what if it didn’t? What if you knew you had everything for your digital business put in place and you were covered before anything went wrong? Enter Jamie Lieberman, Esq. She’s a tattooed, purple-haired genius lawyer, with a firm and several businesses that specialize in legal concerns for digital content creators. Jamie will be breaking through the legal stigma in her session at the Mediavine Conference, “Lawyering Up: Blogger Legal Tips”, and she was kind enough to give us an interview preview. Hi Jamie! Thank you for taking the time to gab with us and do […]

Remember in April when we mosied down to Charleston and had a little conference with all the fun, and swag, and learning, and food, and drinks, and dancing and there was a BOAT? Here’s a handy-dandy video recap, in case you missed it: We’re doing it again. But this time at the Google complex in California. February 28th-March 2nd, 2018. And the person who is responsible for bringing all the awesome together is our Conference Organizer, Megan Myers. Or as I call her, Chief Wrangler of the Best Foodstuffs and Coordinator of Amazing Times. (More titles than Dany from GOT) As part of our #CountdownToCali post series, I did a little wrangling myself and got her to sit down for a few minutes to talk over all the great things that we’ve got coming your way next year. Trust me, based on the details she’s […]
