It’s been a few months since Ads.txt was announced, and the industry has been quick to adopt this new standard in fighting ad fraud. With that adoption, a lot has come to light. If you’re unfamiliar with Ads.txt, I would recommend you read my original article introducing Ads.txt. Just how much adoption has there been in the last few months? Some reports say as many as 44% of the top 10,000 sites have already adopted Ads.txt. Part of this rapid adoption by the publishers on supply side is driven by advertiser requests on the demand side. One of the biggest names in advertising driving this? Google. Google announced that as of November 1, Doubleclick Bid Manager would only buy inventory through authorized accounts on domains – in other words, domains that have an ads.txt and correctly list the correct Google AdExchange or Adsense ID for […]

Mediavine recently had the privilege of joining fellow industry leaders and Google senior product managers at the two-day Google Certified Publishing Partner annual event in Singapore. Singapore is very, very far away (12 time zones and 24 hours of air travel), but appropriately so, as attending such a prestigious event was symbolic of how far we’ve come as an organization. When the company announced Mediavine as a Google Certified Publishing Partner earlier this year, we joined an exclusive list of fewer than 40 companies across the world to earn this designation. Mediavine’s GCPP addition was the first in more than six months, and may in fact be the last for the foreseeable future, as the requirements for admission are only getting more stringent. Google has long been one of, if not the strongest, industry partners accelerating Mediavine’s growth, thanks to its vast and powerful suite of digital […]

Remember in April when we mosied down to Charleston and had a little conference with all the fun, and swag, and learning, and food, and drinks, and dancing and there was a BOAT? Here’s a handy-dandy video recap, in case you missed it: We’re doing it again. But this time at the Google complex in California. February 28th-March 2nd, 2018. And the person who is responsible for bringing all the awesome together is our Conference Organizer, Megan Myers. Or as I call her, Chief Wrangler of the Best Foodstuffs and Coordinator of Amazing Times. (More titles than Dany from GOT) As part of our #CountdownToCali post series, I did a little wrangling myself and got her to sit down for a few minutes to talk over all the great things that we’ve got coming your way next year. Trust me, based on the details she’s […]

Recently, Pinterest soft launched a mode in their mobile app that would allow readers to see the entire recipe from a food site without actually visiting the site. Content creators everywhere went a little bit bananas, and rightly so. After all, that takes away a session, any ad views, and in some cases would cause an ad policy violation, if your adhesion ad loaded behind the card that appeared. But let’s stop for a minute and talk about the motivation behind such a soft launch. Your site’s speed, especially on mobile, is yours to enhance or damage. When it’s damaged? The thing that suffers is your user experience. Readers don’t want to wait 3 seconds for a site to load on their mobile data connection. That’s an eternity in mobile web browsing. When you’re an outside source (Pinterest, Facebook, or Google, to name a few) […]

Last month, the IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau) announced a new standard, ads.txt, to help fight ad fraud. As of today, Mediavine is proud to announce that we’d made it easy for our publishers to quickly adopt this standard via our Mediavine Control Panel WordPress Plugin or via our dashboard for other platforms. But first, because you asked … What is ads.txt? Similar to the infamous robots.txt file, it’s a “plain text” file that is hosted on your root domain, at the top level of your website, and it contains a list of authorized sellers of your advertising inventory. You can see an example here: https://www.thehollywoodgossip.com/ads.txt What’s the point of ads.txt? The ads.txt initiative was started to combat ad fraud and in particular, two main types – unauthorized reselling of your ad inventory through arbitration, and more importantly, ad fraud through misrepresentation or counterfeit ad impressions. Okay, […]

If you know anything about Mediavine, you’re probably aware of our obsession with page speed. We feel the need for speed, and more speed after that. However, as an ad management company, there’s definitely something in our way — advertisements. Ads are slow. Really slow. Why? Because each display advertisement you run on your site is like running a separate mini website. They each run their own set of JavaScript, styles, images, and HTML just like your site itself. They require all these resources in order to render interactive ads and run the tracking they need. If you run any third party page speed measurement tool, you’ve likely seen advertisements polluting all the warnings and errors those tools spit out. So how do we balance slow ads with our obsession with page speed? We use a lot of tricks, but today we’re focusing on probably […]
