How long does it take for a publisher to complete Mediavine’s application process and begin running ads? We get this question a lot, and the answer isn’t as simple as a concrete number of days or weeks. The answer is … it depends.  Mediavine has one of the most comprehensive application processes in the industry, which is how we guarantee high-quality sites and the best ad inventory. Our CEO, Eric Hochberger, has written extensively about the key Mediavine requirements and why they matter. Here’s a quick recap of what Mediavine looks for in an application: How many sessions the website has Where its traffic comes from (Google, social, newsletters, direct, etc) Where traffic is originating from geographically The most popular posts/landing pages How long users view those posts The format of the posts The website layout Whether or not the traffic is consistent (or the […]

So, you want to jump on board the video train, but don’t know where to start? No worries. We’ve got you. First, let’s answer the most basic question:  What do you need, right now, to get started with Mediavine video? A website that is monetized with Mediavine ads That’s it.  Note that videos are nowhere on that one-item “list.”  That wasn’t a mistake, and we’ll explain why below. Slideshow video vs. Live action video There are two primary types of videos that publishers use to earn money with Mediavine ads: slideshow videos and live action videos. What is a slideshow video? Slideshow videos are videos created using still images, layered with text and music, and saved in a video format. They are faster and less expensive to produce, and if done correctly, they can look very professional and add value to your blog posts.  They […]

In May 2018, the European Union enacted the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in an unprecedented effort to bolster transparency and protect privacy in online advertising. The goal of GDPR was to clarify what parties are collecting user data and for what purposes, and to provide users an opportunity to consent to having their data collected. As a full-service ad management company, we learned quickly that providing the framework for these new standards of transparency and consent would be Mediavine’s responsibility. As a publisher running ads, you are allowing third parties to collect and process data through cookies, even if this is happening without any specific action on your end. We needed to provide a way to disclose this to users and give them a way to opt in or out, and it would have been easier, even safer, to outsource a massive project like […]

On Monday, Google added two pretty big video features to Google Search Console. Under Enhancements, you’ll now get a report on any videos marked up in Schema.org and parsed by Google, as well as the ability to see how your videos are helping your search appearances. What does that mean and how can you use these features to improve SEO? Glad you asked! 1. Video Enhancement report If you’re a publisher running an SEO-friendly video player (such as the Mediavine Video Player) which outputs Schema.org markup, you’ll now see a list of pages in which Google has found video content. This report is designed to help you debug videos that are marked up for Google, ensuring that they’re “Valid” and that you’re sending through as much meta information as possible. Meta information is data about a video such as a description, its length, and other […]

Good morning, Baltimore!  That’s what we’ll be singing every day from June 3–5, 2020 when we’re in town for the FIFTH Mediavine conference!  We’ve already been to Charleston, San Jose and Chicago, and soon we will be in Austin for our second event of 2019. We’re extremely excited to add the Charm City to the growing list.  Why Baltimore?  We picked Baltimore for the fifth Mediavine Conference because it is a thriving, bustling city. It’s home to great food (hello, crabcakes!), a creative hub and lots of history.  Both conference lodging and learning will take place at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront, located in the heart of the Baltimore harbor.  The hotel is just a 7-minute walk from the National Aquarium and just around the corner from attractions like historic Fells Point and Camden Yards. What is the Mediavine Influencers Conference?  Our annual Mediavine conferences are […]

Texas has been my home for the past 14 years. With the practically non-stop sunshine and distinct lack of snow, it is quite the opposite from my years growing up in the Midwest. (If you’re going to visit the Midwest, the summer is the best time! We had a blast there in June for the first MVCon of 2019 in Chicago.) We’ve embraced all that central Texas has to offer, and I couldn’t be more excited to be bringing the Mediavine Conference to Austin! If you’re attending the conference or visiting Austin separately, here are some of my favorite places to eat and things to do.  No matter where you end up, Austin is full of incredible experiences. If you can’t make it in person to the Mediavine Conference, we’ll be videoing and sharing all the sessions, just like always. Subscribe to the Mediavine YouTube […]

One of our favorite things about Mediavine publishers is that they not only work hard toward their goals, but they are willing to share their information and expertise.  The type of selflessness and generous nature our influencers display never ceases to amaze us. Between our private Facebook group to blog posts, social media and more, you will always find people sharing tips, tricks and information with their fellow bloggers to help them succeed.  We love this Publisher Interview series, because they have a chance to share their story and showcase their success to a new audience. We’ve seen these success stories with publishers like Spaceships and Laserbeams, and Finding the Universe to name a couple of our 5,500 (and constantly growing) publishers.  Today we’re pleased to share an interview with Brandon Gaille of the small business and marketing site, BrandonGaille. Say hello and learn more […]

Exchanging business cards is a long-standing tradition at many blogging conferences, including our own Mediavine conferences. Even in the digital age, they’re a great way to keep track of who you met and to spread the word about your blog or business. They’re also a great identifier for your blog, especially if you happen to share it with a brand who wants to work with influencers! In short, your business card can make or break a great impression. Before I worked at Mediavine, I ran my own graphic design business, worked at several ad agencies and on other in-house teams. In short: I’ve designed A LOT of business cards. Including ours! Our whole team has one that looks something like this — teal to the max: I’ve also picked up a lot of business cards over the years at conferences. The Mediavine team picks up […]
