We’re almost three weeks into January, and our team is knee-deep in conference planning. Something we adore about planning conferences is getting to pick out gorgeous venues, decide on delicious food to serve and choosing our line-up of awesome speakers.  For the last two years, our Mediavine conferences have provided a plethora of knowledge from a spectrum of hand-picked speakers. (Just check out our YouTube channel for a sampling.) This year for our TWO events in Chicago and Austin, we expect DOUBLE the information overload.  We’re so excited to have Karli Bitner of Cooking with Karli on the blog today! She’ll be speaking about traffic growth at our 2019 Mediavine Conference in Chicago in June, but today she’s sharing with us how she got started with blogging, how she makes time for her website alongside her busy family and her strategies for growth.  We’re so […]

Mediavine Case Study: The Pumpkin Lady

Every publisher has a unique story. From the inspiration that started their journey, to learning the nuances of blogging, to earning enough for a car payment, a trip to Disneyland, or even a full-time income, we’ve heard some truly remarkable stories in recent years and are always thrilled to share them. One such journey, leading to results that surpassed even our highest expectations, comes from Jack and Lisa Barberette. Their site, PumpkinLady.com, is a family-friendly, Halloween-themed source for free digital pumpkin carving patterns and craft ideas. Not unlike the foliage across much of the U.S., Pumpkin Lady traffic begins ramping up in late summer and peaks in early-to-mid fall. In order to capitalize on seasonal traffic, it’s imperative that ads be optimized to maximize earning potential. Jack and Lisa came to us in early October 2018 — no time to lose in terms of getting […]

Dan Western, Wealthy Gorilla

Wouldn’t it be amazing to be able to build such a successful business that you can drop everything and go live abroad or be able to travel more often?  Many of our Mediavine travel publishers have done just that, like Kristin Addis from Be My Travel Muse, Gary Arndt of Everything Everywhere and Andrzej Ejmont of Wanderlust Storytellers. But Mediavine’s not just for travel bloggers (or any one type of publisher, for that matter!) Take our publisher Dan Western of Wealthy Gorilla, for example. He’s 23 years old, lives in and runs his website from Bali and travels Southeast Asia in his spare time. Sounds like a dream, right?  It’s not! It’s totally real.  We invited Dan to the Mediavine blog today to tell us all about his life as a content creator. Thanks so much for joining us, Dan!  Tell us a little bit about yourself, your family, and […]

What causes these issues? What can we do to prevent these issues from occurring? If caching is so great, why does it sometimes break my site? Another fantastic question. The answer is fairly simple. First, we’ll talk about what happens when caching fails. It usually results in styling (CSS) conflicts or issues with the interactivity of your site (JavaScript). When your fonts or background colors suddenly stop displaying properly, or the mobile navigation menu won’t stay closed, but only for one (or a few) readers, this is very often a caching issue.

Ads & SEO

When you think of SEO, you generally don’t think of ads. With good reason. By definition, advertising runs counter to the goals of optimizing for SEO, a process which relies on a focus on your content and user experience. However, as an ad management company that started as an SEO marketing firm, we have found the perfect balance, ensuring that the two can work together.

What is a cache?

What in the world is caching and why should I care? Let’s start with a story. Imagine you go to a restaurant. It’s your first time, so you sit down at your table and look through the menu. You’re reading the instructions of this restaurant.
